Privacy
Your words stay on your device. Purchases and the free sample use a few technical and commercial records, described here.
In short
Everything you write or choose in Nearstep is stored on your device, in the app’s private storage, excluded from automatic backups. There is no account, no cloud sync and no analytics of your content. Your words are never sent to AI services, to us or to anyone else.
The only data that leaves your device concerns payment and access: a one-time purchase handled by your store, and the free seven-day sample. Neither includes your words.
What stays on your device
Your notes, preparations, chosen options, edits, reviews and step checks. Optional reminders are scheduled through your phone’s own notification system with a generic text; they never contain your words or names.
You can read, copy, export and delete all of it at any time, for free, in Settings. Deleting in Nearstep doesn’t remove copies you exported.
Purchases
Apple or Google processes purchases under its own privacy policy. Nearstep uses RevenueCat to check access when the app opens, when you buy and when you restore. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous app user ID derived from a randomly generated installation key, basic device and platform information, and purchase receipts or tokens when present. Purchase records include the product and transaction dates. They are used to confirm access and report commercial statistics such as purchases. The ID connects these records to an installation, without a Nearstep account, name or email. Neither RevenueCat nor our access service receives your private words or choices.
Purchase records are kept by the store and by RevenueCat under their retention rules. Deleting your words in Nearstep doesn’t delete a purchase record.
The free seven-day sample
On iPhone and Android, the sample is confirmed by a small access service we operate on Google Cloud. It receives a pseudonymous installation ID and public key, the platform and a signed request. The ID is the same one used to check purchase access. Checks can happen when the app opens; they do not start a sample. It never receives your words.
On iPhone, the sample is a free App Store transaction. Our access service reads its original date through RevenueCat so that restoring it does not start another seven days.
On Android, our access service stores the first activation time for that installation to calculate when the sample ends. Reinstalling the app may create a new installation identity.
Google Cloud keeps technical request logs, including IP address, request time, route, status, latency and basic client information. We use them to diagnose failures, protect the service and monitor its operation, not to locate you or advertise to you. Requests never include your notes, preparations or choices.
Retention and deletion
Local records remain until you delete them or remove the app. Purchase records are retained to verify access and restoration, subject to the store and RevenueCat rules. Android sample activation records have no automatic expiry: the original start is kept to prevent another sample for the same installation.
Our access service uses seven-day operational log retention and seven-day database backups. Google Cloud mandatory audit logs retain administrative events for 400 days. Request quota counters are eligible for automatic deletion 48 hours after their minute or month window ends; provider deletion can take additional time.
Delete all records in Settings removes local content, not store, RevenueCat or access-service records. There is currently no in-app remote deletion control. Contact the support address with privacy questions or requests; do not send your private words. We must verify which technical records belong to you before acting. We explain any records that must remain for access, security or legal obligations. We cannot delete records held independently by Apple or Google.
What we don’t do
No account or sign-in. No analytics of your private content, advertising or cross-app tracking. Commercial statistics and technical service logs are described above. No reading of your messages, contacts, photos or other apps. No AI processing of your text, on the device or anywhere else.
Device loss and backups
Because your words live only on your device, losing the device, resetting it or uninstalling the app removes them. Export regularly if you want a copy. Restoring a purchase restores access, not words.
Age
Nearstep is intended for people aged 16 and over. It doesn’t ask for your birth date and isn’t directed at children.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and the current text is always available in Settings. Questions about privacy go to the support address; please don’t include your notes.
